La journée de l’Institut d’Alembert du 4 mai dernier a mis à l’honneur les projets financés à l’AAP 2017-2018 pour un bilan à
mi-parcours. Je tiens dans ces quelques lignes à adresser mes remerciements à tous les intervenants (porteurs de projets et collègues
associés au projet) pour la qualité de leurs présentations et de leurs travaux, ainsi qu’à nos deux conférenciers invités, Darine Abi
Haidar et John R. Reynolds. Tous ont parfaitement montré, et ce dans des domaines différents, que de nombreux enjeux se dessinent
ou sont déjà positionnés aux interfaces physique-chimie-biologie. Cette journée a également montré l’importance des sciences de
l’ingénieur et leur impact sur la façon d’appréhender des questions plus fondamentales, toutes disciplines confondues. Les aspects
liés aux développements en nano- et microfluidique, qui occupent une place très importante à l’IDA, illustrent parfaitement ce propos
et je vous invite à découvrir en pages intérieures l’interview de Jean-Pierre Lefevre ; il est interrogé à double titre, d’une part pour
sa responsabilité de la plateforme microfluidique et, d’autre part, pour son implication dans le projet ANAVIRECOLI qui adresse des
questions fondamentales en biologie liées au suivi temporel de l’évolution de populations clonales bactériennes via la conception
et la fabrication de microsystèmes adaptés, illustrant le continuum existant entre les développements (nano)tehnologiques et les
questions fondamentales, qu’elles relèvent d’une discipline en particulier ou d’une interface.

The Alembert Institute day held on the 4 May, highlighted projects financed by the AAP 2017-2018, at their half-way point. I would
like to use these few lines to address my thanks to all of the participants (project leaders and colleagues associated with the project),
for the quality of their presentations and their work, as well as to our two guest speakers Darine Abi Haidar and John R. Reynolds.
All those involved showed perfect examples, albeit in different fields, of how there are many challenges on the horizon, or already in
place, at the interfaces of physics-chemistry-biology. This day also showed the importance of engineering and its impact on the way
the most fundamental questions of all disciplines, whatever, are perceived. Those aspects dealing with nano and microfluidics, which
occupy such an important place at the IDA, are perfect illustrations of this and I invite you to discover the interview with Jean-Pierre
Lefevre on the inside pages; he is interviewed on two counts, firstly concerning his responsibilities for the microfluidic platform and
secondly for his involvement in the ANAVIRECOLI project which addresses these most fundamental of questions in biology related to
the monitoring of the evolution of cloned bacterial populations through the conception, and the fabrication of adapted microsystems.
This shows the continuum existing between the developments of (nano)technologies and the basic questions, which fall within a
particular discipline or interface.
