DO YOU SPEAK ENSTA PARIS ?

> LABOS (Short for laboratories). ENSTA Paris has six laboratories that conduct applied
research in close relation with industry and are also responsible for training. They
are also called UER (Unités d'Enseignement et de Recherche): U2IS : The Computer
Science and Systems Engineering Department; UMA : The Applied Mathematics
Department; UME : The Mechanical Engineering Department; LOA : The Applied
Optics Department; UCP : The Chemical Process Engineering Department ; UEA :
The Applied Economics Department.
> LAQA Langues Autres Que l’Anglais. Languages Other Than English. In addition to English
(3 hours per week), it is compulsory to practice a second foreign language. ENSTA
Paris offers the study of 8 other languages : French as a foreign language, German,
Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Russian.
> LCC Langues Culture et Communication. Department of Languages, Culture and
Communication.
> MAJEURE (Major course). The 2nd year courses are divided into three majors (Mechanical
Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science), between which a student
is required to choose according to their interest and professional project.
> MUTUELLE Supplementary health insurance can supplement your compulsory membership
to the Assurance Health Insurance. You are reimbursed for the compulsory and
the complementary part of your health expenses in two separate instalments. See
page “Social protection in France”.
> OFII Office Français de l’Immigration et de l’Intégration : public administrative
establishment responsible for the reception of foreigners holding a title
authorising them to live in France. The OFII ensures the administrative management
of migration, the reception of new arrivals and the social monitoring of foreign

> PFE Projet de Fin d’Études. The graduation project provides the student with an
opportunity to implement the lessons received at ENSTA Paris, in particular the
in-depth lessons of the third year, within the framework of a beginner engineer's
job. It is carried out under the supervision of a permanent professor from the
school who acts as a tutor and a scientific or technical manager within the host
organisation.
> POLYS The Polycopiés, also called "Polys", are the course materials distributed.
